Global Exchange Costa Rica

GECR's Adult Service Program is designed for those who have the desire to engage in service work, reach outside of their comfort zones, and make a difference in the world.  It is never too late to engage oneself globally and discover one's own role in a larger world.  The focus of this trip is not tourism, setting it apart from many other programs that advertise Service Trips.  Aside from being a unique volunteer opportunity, lodging in a small town will allow participants to meet local residents and embrace an authentic cultural immersion.

Participants are lodged in a local town hostel, close to the work site.  Groups commute daily to the selected site, located in the surrounding mountains. Service sites include rural schools, neighboring small towns, and the Tapantí National Park.  Because this Program focuses heavily on service, the group works on-site during the day. In the evenings, individuals can interact with other international travelers and explore local shops, restaurants, bars, and sights. Those interested may opt to take Spanish lessons at a local language school.  On weekends, the group embarks on exciting excursions to experience more of the country and take a break from work.  Presently, there are two options that the Adult Service Program provides:
