Global Exchange Costa Rica
Student Service Program
Give your students the experience of a lifetime!
GECR's Student Service Program aims to engage High School groups in service work in local Costa Rican schools. This experience not only provides students with an opportunity to engage globally, but also to understand themselves in the context of other students around the world. Working in schools gives students an appreciation of their education and of other educational and cultural systems.
The trip typically lasts 9 days. Students are lodged in a local town hostel, the town depending on the location of the work site. They commute to a selected rural school daily in the surrounding mountains. Because this program focuses heavily on service, students work on-site for 5 consecutive days. In the evenings the group can explore the local shops and restaurants. Students interested may opt to take Spanish lessons at a local language school. After a week of hard work, the group embarks on an exciting excursion to see more of the country.
This particular program is designed around the Allendale Columbia School model. To learn more about this trip in past years, read this article.
